This is the first time I’ve tried Shea Moisture products. Frankly, there are so many that I had no idea what would work for me. It was incredibly helpful to speak directly to a Shea Moisture ambassador at the Quintessential Naturals hair tour in Philadelphia. I discussed what ingredients work for my hair (manuka honey) and those that don’t (coconut and Jamaican black castor oil). I received the twisting custard to test and review; and, it’s not hyperbole to say this belongs in my holy grail product bag.
A routine that works for my needs.
I want definition, volume, shine, and moisture for a wash and go, a twistout, and roller sets, and that’s what I get. Separating and fluffing is the realest of struggles; but, it’s not an issue with Shea Moisture’s Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Twist Defining Custard. I pulled and pulled my strands apart and each one was defined. I didn’t wake up with lost definition the next day, which is huge for anyone who likes first day volume. I have 4a and 4b curls and find it difficult to get definition on the multiple textures in my hair. The twisting custard worked some magic on my hair and gave me the results below.

Shea Moisture’s Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Twist-Defining Custard
- Smells like fig and shea
- Moisturizes hair and leaves it soft. The slip increases as you massage it into the hair.
- Scalp is hydrated for days
- Thick and creamy
- I cowashed with Wen
- Use it as your only styler. No gel needed. For twistouts, I put my hair in 12-18 twists depending on the look I want to achieve.
- Once my hair is completely dry, I apply oil to my hands and untwist.
